Our 6-Step Decommissioning Process.
From safe shutdown to full removal, we manage every step — cleanly and compliantly. Decommissioning a commercial solar array is a complex operation. It’s not just about taking panels off a roof or ground mount — it’s about doing it safely, legally, and with minimal disruption to your site or operations. Here’s what to expect when you hire Solar Me for a decommissioning project.

Site Assessment & Planning: We visit the site, document the system layout, and build a full removal plan, including access and equipment needs.

Utility & Permitting Coordination: We manage all paperwork, utility notifications, and permits to shut down the system legally and cleanly.

Safe Shutdown & Compliance: Our crew isolates and powers down the system using OSHA and NEC-compliant lockout/tagout and safety protocols.

Equipment Removal: We remove panels, racking, inverters, conduit, and hardware — palletized and staged for transport.

Logistics & Hauling: We arrange lift equipment, staging, and transportation for recycling, resale, or responsible disposal.

Recycling & Documentation: All materials are properly recycled or repurposed with documentation and chain-of-custody records if required.

What Our Customers Think
FAQs
How long does a commercial decommissioning project take?
It depends on system size, access, and permitting. Smaller arrays (50–200 panels) may take a few days. Large systems (1,000+ panels) may take 1–2 weeks including logistics and coordination with roofing or utility partners.
What happens to the old solar equipment?
We coordinate recycling, resale, or proper disposal based on condition and your preference. If resale or reuse is possible, we’ll help document it. Otherwise, we work with certified e-waste and solar recycling partners.
Can Solar Me work with our roofer or general contractor?
Absolutely. We regularly partner with roofing companies and GCs to coordinate timing, roof restoration, and site readiness before or after removal. We make sure the solar side doesn’t delay your project. Need roofing help? Solar Me is also a licensed roofing contractor — so if your commercial decommissioning project includes roof work, we can handle both scopes under one trusted team. That means tighter coordination, fewer delays, and one less contractor to manage.
