Here’s how Solar Me makes it easy on you.
Removing your solar system isn’t just about taking panels off a roof — it’s a careful, multi-step process that protects your home, satisfies utility requirements, and handles everything from hardware to documentation.

Consultation & Site Assessment: We begin with a consultation (in person or virtual) to understand your goals and system status. Our team will inspect your roof, solar components, wiring, and mounting system to scope out what’s needed for a safe and complete removal.

Shut Down & Make Safe: Our certified technicians perform a full electrical shutdown using industry-standard lockout/tagout procedures. This ensures your system is safely disconnected from the utility grid and no power is flowing through wires or inverters.

Panel & Equipment Removal: We remove all panels, racking, and related solar hardware. Depending on your system, this may include inverters, conduit, junction boxes, and monitoring devices. All removal is done carefully to prevent roof damage.

Roof Protection & Weatherproofing: Once the system is removed, we patch and seal any penetrations, flashings, or hardware mounts. If you’re planning a roof replacement, we coordinate timing with your roofer to minimize downtime and protect your home throughout the process.

Recycling, Resale, or Disposal: We’ll responsibly recycle your system components or coordinate resale/repurposing if they still have usable life. You’ll receive documentation for your records, including a chain of custody or disposal receipts when applicable.

Paperwork & Closeout: We handle the necessary paperwork for utility interconnection closeout, SREC program updates (if applicable), and can provide documents for insurance or home sale purposes. You’re left with a clean slate and peace of mind.

No. Our team carefully removes all mounting hardware and restores the roof surface as needed. We coordinate with your roofer (if applicable) and can patch/flash to ensure it’s weatherproof.
What does it cost to decommission a solar system?
Pricing depends on system size, roof type, electrical setup, and removal complexity. We provide a detailed estimate upfront with no pressure.
What happens to the solar panels after removal?
We handle all panel removal, transport, and proper disposition. Depending on the condition, panels may be recycled, repurposed, or safely disposed of. If resale is an option, we can explore that too.
